Discuss the ways in which the Gamemakers control the environment and "entertainment" value of the Games. How does it affect the tributes to know they are being manipulated to make the Games more exciting for the gamblers and the viewers? Does knowing that she is on live TV make Katniss behave differently that she would otherwise?

Ok, so now the Hunger Games are tremendously interesting! Katniss has decided to make a surprising alliance with the smallest and weakest, but also the quickest and limberest competor, Rue. Rue and Katniss quickly realize that they are a perfect match for each other and develop a plan together to steal some of the Careers supplies. Katniss watches as Foxface nimbly jumps and falls, realizing that there must be some sort of trap, so Katniss shoots an arrow over there and sure enough, a bomb goes off sending Katniss flying back in alarm. While watching for Rue's third and final fire, signifing that she is safe, Katniss falls asleep. The next morning, Katniss wakes to mackingjay calls... mackingjay calls from none other than... RUE!!!! Overly excited, Katniss runs to greet her, but too soon hears her name called in alarm and sees a terrible occurance. A boy from district 2 shoving a spear into Rue causes Katniss to lose control and shoot the boy! He dies immeaditley while Rue is extremely weakend. Katniss rushes to Rue's side and tries as hard as she can to keep rue smiling and strong, but finally, Rue's hour comes and she is "in the happy green meadows". Katniss doesn't realize why, but she feels extremely wierd about the boy from District 2 that she killed, but soon realized that it was the frist person she hd actually killed! Katniss is mourning over the loss of Rue, but has promised Rue she will win the games for the both of them and that's all she can think about... winning for Rue! Will it happen?
ReplyDeleteSO far the Hunger games is really good. i dont like the killing at all. i think that it would super scary for her the night before the games to think that she could get there and almost die immedietley. it's really sad to think about it. it would be really akward when Cinna and her are waiting for thw games to start under the areana. i think the tube that sends the tributes up into the areana is really cool. when they are standing there for the 60 seconds, there must be a lot going through your mind. i think that Katniss made that right decision by grabbing the bag and running. i think that she was smart to run as far as possible and then sllep in the tree and buckle herself in or that would have been bad . i can not believe that Peeta would team up with the other tributes and try to hunt people down. i think that it is really smart that she knew that she wasnt getting the water sent to her because she was near some. it was also sad that the gamemakers would set her little area on fire and make her leave. wow, and i cant beleive that Rue was in the tree pretty much that whole time while she was climbing the tree and fighting the other tributes.
ReplyDeleteA lot has happened in the book since the last time I blogged. So, I am going to highlight the main points. To begin with Rue and Katniss become allys. Then one day they formed a plan to distract the Career tributes and steal all of their food. Rue was the one that was going to distract them while Katniss went and blew up the food. After Katniss blew up the food she went to the spot where she was going to meet Rue, but Rue didn't come for a few minutes. Then Katniss started hearing mocking jays that were singing Rue's song. So Katniss immediatly ran to where the sound was coming from. When she got there Rue had an arrow in her side, out of fury Katniss killed the boy from District 1 with a bow-and-arrow. After Katniss killed him she relized that she had just made her first kill! Mean while Rue was dying but before Rue dies she made Katniss promise to win the games for both of them. When Rue died Katniss arranged a lot of flowers around her to make her look pretty and to get the attention of the gamemakers. A few nights later the gamemakers change the rules to say that both people from the same district could win the games. After this annoucment Katniss quickly thinks of Peeta and goes out to find him. Katniss finds Peeta very well disguished under a pile of leaves. After she found him, Katniss and Peeta went and found a cave to stay in. When they got there Katniss offered Peeta some food, but he replied, "I am not hungery and I haven't been hungry for days." So Katniss feels his head and it turns out he has a fever and the cut on his leg is infected. Fastforward...... One night, the announcments come up into the sky and they declared that there was going to be a feast and there would be a bookbag there for each district that contains something that they desperatly need. Peeta did not want Katniss to go and risk getting killed. So Haymitch sent Katniss a present which had some medicene that would knock Peeta out. So Katniss put some of it in some berries and fed them to Peeta. Shortley after Petta was knocked out, so Katniss went to the feast to get the book bag. While there she almost got killed by Clove, but the was saved Thresh, who killed Clove. Shortley afterwards Thresh was killed by Cato. So now there are only three tributes let. Let's see who wins!
ReplyDeleteHey everyone! This past weekend, I finished the Hunger Games! Though it left me hanging, I loved the way it ended with Peeta and Katniss holding hands 'for the audience'. I thought that was a great discription of the whole book. I liked how the book was a thrill, roller coaster ride with twist and turns everywhere like declaring that there can be two winners if they're from the same district, but then going back on their words. That was a real dissappointment because it caused Peeta and Katniss to try and kill themselves at the same time by eating the poisenious berries, but as soon as they ate them the gamemakerds changed their minds AGAIN!!!! Fortuniatley, Peeta and Katniss heard quick enough that they could spit the berries out before anything bad happened, but STILL! That definitley kept me turning the pages! Another part I thought was interesting was when Peeta and Katniss were waiting on the train and Katniss couldn't decide what to do about Peeta and Gale. She knew she couldn't like Peeta and still be friends with Gale, but she also knows that she had been 'playing' it the whole time with Peeta, but Gale didn't know that and AAARRRRGGGG! Sometimes life is too coonfusing for words! I think that Katniss really likes Peeta, but at the same time doesn't because she is such goood friends with Gale that if she chooses a relationship with Peeta over a strong friendship with Gale that her life will just be a mess and she won't have anything strong to lean on in her life. I thought overall that the book was amazing - definitley better ending than it started! I thought the ending didn't leave you hanging too much, but at the same time I definitley want to read the second book because I want to find out what is going to happen. I think that Peeta and Katniss holding hands at the end of the book for the audience and the audience alone was extremely special because they both knew then that all their feelings should be thrown aside and they should just have joy - true joy - for winning the games and not even think about their 'lovefest':)
ReplyDeleteHunger Games, and I mean the book itself, is finally over! Warning, if you haven't finished reading it yet, stop reading this or you'll get some major spoilers. First off, this has been one of the best books I have ever read. The ending for Katniss and Peeta's relationship isn't meeting a happy ending though. With the truth about the berries out to Peeta, he's begun to slowly drift away from Katniss. I predict some serious fireworks though between the duo later, especially with two more books to go. On the other downside, Peeta lost the leg that that demon spawned wolf tribute thing bit. I mean, how can you reanimate a dead corpse, let alone turn into some weird human animal hybrid. Plus, these guys can repair a permanetly damaged ear, but can't save a leg. I mean, who can come up with that and not be able to save a leg that they messsed up in the first place! Well, this is the last of my blogs, so thanks for reading, and I'll see you guys later!
ReplyDeleteOk so to begin I am going to start with something bad. I did not like the way that the game makers made the mutts that were made out of the other tributes that had already died and sent them after Peeta , Katniss and Cato. Wow, I am very glad that Peeta and Katniss won. I absolutely hated how they lied to everyone saying there could be two winners instead of just one. Katniss and Peeta just froze and really couldn’t move because they had been depending on each other this whole time and now well they couldn’t. I loved how they both wanted to die instead of the other person. It was so sweet. I thought that Katniss' idea was a great one. Eating the berries at the same to so neither would have the guilt of killing the other person. How did the announcer respond so quickly to them pretending to eat the berries? I think that it would be so sad to have to leave someone for them to do surgery on that you have been depending on for a while. i love the dresses that they put Katniss in. I also don’t like how the capitol is almost out to get Katniss because of her idea during the games. I don’t exactly understand how they can fix Katniss' ear but they can’t fix Peeta’s leg. I really want to read the next book to find out what happens with Peeta and Katniss!
ReplyDeleteThe ending is finally here! There are a few things that I didn't like about the ending, a few that I didn't understand, and a few that I liked. To begin with, the mutts were really wierd. If I saw them in real life I would probably freak out. At first I just thought that they were wolves or something, but then it turns out that they were actually the corpse and minds of the players that had died. I didn't understand how they fixed Katniss' hearing but they couldn't fix Peeta's leg. Overall, I loved the book and would like to read the second book, to find out what happens! :)
ReplyDeleteI finished The Hunger Games. Overall, it was a very good book, full of twists and turns, interesting characters, and intriguing events. I was glad that both Peeta and Katniss survived, and they went quickly home. The hurt was obvious, however, when Peeta found out Katniss had only been pretending to love him both in the arena and out to save their lives. Her emotions are still very confusing and mixed up.
ReplyDeleteKatniss' idea to eat the berries to save both Peeta and herself was very clever. It put Katniss in danger, because she found a way to defy the Capitol. Still, they were both saved. Peeta was given a prosthetic leg because of injuries, and Katniss regained hearing in her left ear.
Most disturbing was the final challenge: the muttations. They were the bodies of the other tributes that had been rebuilt as vicious wolf-like creatures whose only intent was to kill Cato, Katniss, and Peeta. Even little Rue's body had been used. Katniss was horrified; I found it cruel and abusive.
Still, the book proved to be very good, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
