Yesterday we Skyped with author Aimee Henley about The Scourge.  What comments did you find most interesting?  What did you learn about the book and writing that you did not know?  What did you think of Mrs. Henley?

  1. Aimee Henley was great! I love how she gave me like, insight on what it's like to write a book, get it published, and be an author. I've always secretly wanted to be one, and she lit a fire inside me that made me really want to write(: I found the whole writing process very interesting. I always thought that writers would like, write. Day and night, 24/7. That's why I always wondered why it took like, two years for a next book in a series to come out. Now, I know. I learned that sometimes authors leave it up to you to decide what you want to think about a certain scene, or even the ending. I liked that. It's like, leaving it up to your personal perspective. You could think one thing, yet the person sitting beside you thinks another. Something different. I think that's cool(: And as for Mrs. Henley, she was GREAT!(:

  2. The author skype was very fun and interesting. I enjoyed learning what had inspired Mrs. Henley to write the Scourge and where the inspiration came from. I loved hearing everyones questions and comments about the book. I was a little nervous because the book has made it's way into my favorites and it was a little intimidating speaking to the author. I feel that it was like talking to J.K. Rowling or Susanne Collins because they've written my favorite books. I thought it was also fun to ask her questions of my own and to find out things that I didn't fully understand. Like if Bega the doll could talk or if Kora would pretend she could. I also liked hearing about the process of getting a book published when she explained it to us. I think Mrs. Henley was so nice to answer our questions. She was very patient with us and I appreciated it considering how nervous I was. I loved the experience and hope that I can do something like it again.

  3. Skyping with Aimee Henley was so much fun. She had a lot to say about writting, editting, and getting a book published. I've always wanted to write a book with the ideas in my head about a love story. My perfect love story! I'd never really thought i could do it or even imagined doing it but, she really made me think differently about that. I really like what she had to say about the Scourge. It was so intersting to figure out things I didn't really understand before. It was cool to talk directly to the author of the book. i thought it was really cool to know about the second book and how far along she was. i also thought it was cool that the Koolkuna's language was based off some old african language! Mrs. Henley was really nice and it was so much fun!

  5. It was really cool to get to Skype with author Aimee Henley. I enjoyed all the motivational tips that she gave us for writing and all the little secrets that she released about her next book. It was really interesting when she was talking about the process of writing a book. She said that you have to rewrite your drafts over and over again until its perfect. Also you have to get an agent to promote your work to other companys looking to publsh. She said she wrote about 2000 words, or 8 pages a day. I learned about some of the places where Mrs. Henely got her inspiration, some from books and some from movies, and I learned more in detail about how the writing process works. I really enjoyed getting to talk with Mrs. Henley and getting to understand how she came up with the ideas for different things in the book. I thought she was very kind and smart, and I hope she finishes her series, The Scourge, so that I can read more of her work!

  6. It was really cool to get to Skype with a real author that had published a real book!! She gave some really great adive about writing and encouraged us to write a book even if we know we aren't going to be writing the next Great Gatsby! I asked her if she would ever want to make her book into a movie and when she explained the whole process of making a book into a movie I was very surpriesed!! She also said that she did not base any of her characters off people she knew but she did say she put some of her own characteristics into some of the characteres without even knowing it! She says she plans on making the series at least one more book and hopefully four but more likely three books. I can not wait to read the rest of the series!!!!!

  7. As I was nearing the finish of "The Scourge", it became increasingly interesting. The many plot twists created a real page turner. I had conflicting emotions about the ending. First, the fact that the Groundlings didn't believe Fennel when she tried to explain that the Scourge was an illusion due to their contaminated water,it frustrated me as the reader because I had grown to like Fennel very much. However, it was an intersting concept, and it made me think about different things in life that may simply be an illusion. I was very upset by the death of Aloe. She died a valiant death, defending her precious Eland. I became increasingly mad at Adder, who seemed very selfish. As part of The Three, he was more concerned about himself rather than the well being of the community. It was a little wierd when I found out Fennel and Peree were technically siblings, and that Kadee and Shrike were their parents. However, I absolutely loved Peree, and I loved the relationship he and Fennel shared. I was very upset by the death of Shrike. The ending in some ways filled me with heartache, but in others it filled me with joy. The young love, family values, and loyalty all spoke volumes to me. It was an absolutely phenomenal book; well written and very interesting. I look forward with great anticipation to the sequel.
